Capernaum is an ancient town on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee. In Jesus’ time, it had a Roman military post and was on a main route from Damascus to regions south. It also had a caravan station where young Jesus went to gather news. Jesus was later known as a boat-builder of Capernaum, and later still, Capernaum and nearby Bethsaida became the headquarters for much of his public works. See map.
