Idumea

Idumea is the Greek name for the remaining vestige of Edom, an ancient kingdom south of Judea and the Dead Sea (southern Israel). By the time of Jesus, the region was occupied by the descendants of Nabateans and Greeks who were forcibly converted to Judaism by the Hasmoneans in the 2nd century BC. See map.
