Perea was a region of Roman Palestine that lay east of the Jordan river and the Dead Sea, but it did not extend east as far as the cities of Philadelphia (Amman, Jordan) or Gerasa (Jerash, Jordan), which were included in the region of the Decapolis. The north border of Perea was at Pella and the south around Machaerus. It included the Balqa Highlands and Mount Nebo (Jabal Nibu). See Map.
