Annas was the High Priest of Judea from AD 6 until AD 15 when he was deposed by the Roman procurator, who appointed his son-in-law Caiaphas as the new high priest. Nonetheless, Annas remained one of the most influential of the Sadducees. He played a significant role in the execution of Jesus. See Before the Sanhedrin Court.
