Damascus is one of the oldest cities in the world. By Jesus’ time it had been conquered by the Romans, and was a center of commerce and learning. Jesus spent some time here and was often known as “the scribe of Damascus.” It was here where he learned the Indian language spoken by Ganid. Damascus was home to some of the earliest Christian communities and was a major hub of Christianity for over a thousand years.
