Tarsus

In Roman times, the city of Tarsus was located in the region of Cilicia, which is roughly the same as the modern province of Mersin in Turkyie. It is one of the oldest continually inhabited urban centers in the world, dating back to the Neolithic Period. Tarsus was an important trade center for most of its history but is probably best known as the birthplace of Paul (Saul of Tarsus). See map.
