This is a quote from The Gods by Robert G. Ingersoll (1878), which is a scathing critique of Judeo-Christian literature and theology, as well as an exposé of Christian hypocrisy in the 19th century. While some of his critique has merit, his zeal is excessive. He was a self-proclaimed agnostic and humanist who concludes his thesis by saying that “Reason is the God of Gods.”
