The Sabbath (Shabbat) is the 7th day (Saturday), observed by Jews and some Christians as a holy day of rest and as one of the Ten Commandments. It is first mentioned in Genesis, where it is said that the 7th day is set aside by God for rest and worship. But the practice actually originated in the time of Adam and Eve. Among the Jews, there are 39 activities prohibited on Shabbat.
